Monica Warren Schaeffer

Assistant Choreographer / Dancer

Monica is a founding member and assistant choregrapher of alight dance theater. As a senior in high school, Monica danced at St. John's School of the Arts, in Pennsylvania with Theresa Kendall. Later, she studied flamenco from Elba Hevia y Vaca at Franklin and Marshall College and danced under Deanna Ross at Monterey Peninsula College. Monica received her B.A. in Dance from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2009. As student at the University of Maryland, College Park, Monica studied with Donna Uchizono, John Jasperse, and Terry O'Connor and performed in the reconstruction of Helen Tamiris' How Long Brethren? by Dianne McIntyre, and Angella Foster's Wormen's Work.

Her current work, Shadowmark, will be performed by alight at Next Reflex Dance Collective's Places in Space program at Dance Place in Washington, D.C. on June 18 and 19, 2011. She is also cast in Angella Foster's Truth Be Told, which will premiere at Dance Place in Washington, D.C. on January 21 & 22, 2012 and then be restaged for the Greenbelt Arts Center on February 17 & 18, 2012.
